There is much to do in each day after I get up.
What has been added to most days since 2007 is painting and activities related to it. Initially it was an experiment and consisted of a small painting of my wife shelling on a Florida beach.
This experience was fun and put a smile on my face! Since then I continued the experiment, and now I paint most days of the week. My subjects are largely figurative but I also will do landscapes and still lifes. These works are predominately people and places I know and love.
Not knowing the first thing about painting I noticed a class for beginners taught by Arlington, Va artist/teacher Jane McElvaney Coonce. Four colors only-blue, yellow, red and white. What could be easier? For four years I used these colors and painted with acrylics. Then I switched to oils and added colors. I am still taking classes with Jane.
I have entered shows with Art Center Sarasota, Falls Church Arts, and Arlington Artist Alliance. Some are juried and some are not. I have won two second places, one a small portrait of my wife, Connie, the other a figurative tribute to a friend who died fighting in Vietnam.
